Why You Shouldn’t Go to the Gold Coast for Schoolies

by Kyle Bahr, 6 years ago

The British pair had been travelling around Australia and were excited for a trip to the Gold Coast.

While they had heard of Schoolies, they weren’t exactly sure what it was, and didn’t take much notice. When they arrived the first thing they took in was the impressive Gold Coast skyline and huge high rises.

Unfortunately, after just a few hours they concluded for themselves that “a Schoolie is essentially a term for children between the ages of 14 and 18 who are unleashed upon Surfers Paradise.”

The couple went on with the rest of their Gold Coast trip with caution and spent most of their time avoiding large groups of Schoolies carrying big cases of beer.

While not all Schoolies are irresponsible on holiday, it’s a shame that some can ruin the Aussie holiday experience of other travellers. No wonder other Schoolies destinations, like Fiji or Vanuatu, are on the rise.
